Tweeze Overload: Over-Plucking The Brows

As women, we don’t naturally have much [desirable] facial hair, but the bit of facial hair we do have (eyelashes and eyebrows) is crucial and must be taken good care of. And as an eyelash boutique we may live by the idea that the eyelashes are a vital part of the face, but we are well-aware that the brows are just as important, if not more so. While the lashes enhance the eyes, your eyebrows frame not only the eyes but your face as well. So why, then, do we have the awful tendency to pluck/wax our brows pencil-thin?

Did you know that the thicker your eyebrows are, the more youthful your face will appear? The reverse effect would be a lack of hair resulting in an aged face. And most of us women look to retain a bit of our youth as our numbers increase, so keeping our eyebrows as full as they can be would be a wise option. Now, this isn’t to say you should keep your brows bushy or untamed; in fact shaping them properly around your eyes will set the tone for your entire face and your overall appearance could be thrown slightly off-kilter if they are left shapeless. You might also note that the more you tweeze now, the more sparse your eyebrows could be in the future from repetitive follicle damage, which would only make the problem more prominent. So what can you do to avoid an eyebrow train wreck?

Understanding proper brow shapes is very important. If your brows are bushier and go beyond your natural brow shape, then shaping them into control is key; If your brows are naturally sparse or currently over-tweezed, filling them in to what they should be is most vital while you allow your brows time to grow back out. If you are unsure what your brow shape is, you can consult a locally recommended Wax/Thread technician, who will be able to help you find the brow frame that best fits your face and shape it accordingly.

Once you know your brow shape you’ll be able to fill it in with ease, as there are several products for filling in brows. Anastasia Beverly Hills, for example, has made a name for itself because of its popular, high-quality eyebrow products ranging from brow pencils in varying shades to clear brow gels made for taming those unruly brow hairs. These products are used by the likes of Natalie Portman and Jennifer Anniston for the most dazzling red-carpet looks, so they’re certainly worth adding to your personal collection. and where can they be found? Why, SOHO Lashes, of course!

As for the bushier brow in need of taming, here’s my only advice: when in doubt, leave it to the pros! Keep this in mind: If eyes are the windows to the soul, then your brows are the shutters. And no one really wants unsightly shutters, right?
