How To: Take Care of Your Eyelash Extensions Over the Summer

Young girl shouting assertively at the beach.

The greater majority of clients who walk through the doors of SOHO Lashes come here for eyelash extensions. And These clients know that keeping up these lashes is a job, not only on our part but on their parts as well. With the summer heat on its way, the job is expected to become a little harder, so we thought we’d give three good tips to all of the lash addicts out there on how to keep those eyelash extensions looking as full and fabulous as possible this summer!

water-splashing-on-face

1.) Do not, do not, do not get your eyelashes wet within the first 48 hours! This is the grace period during which you need to allow the adhesive to fully bond the synthetic lash to your natural lash, and without allowing that time the extensions are likely to shed prematurely. Normally the only protocol here would be to substitute your normal steamy shower with a bath and to take extra care when washing the face around the eye area. However, over the summer water can become a girl’s best friend. With that being said, be mindful when scheduling your eyelash appointment. Getting lashed up right before a pool party, water park trip, or surf session might be counterproductive!

2.) Eye Makeup: If you must, don’t use anything waterproof. That means eyemakeupeyeliner and mascara especially (a client really shouldn’t need to use mascara of any sort with the eyelash extensions, and over the summer we recommend to forgo mascara altogether). The added friction it would take to remove harsh, waterproof product could potentially loosen the bond that the adhesive creates between the synthetic and natural lashes, which could cause them to fall out. And please, when removing the makeup, make sure your makeup remover is not oil-based, as oil breaks down the bond that the adhesive creates.

protective coating3.) Protect yourself from outside factors. If you know you get an allergic to the pollen coming down everywhere and your eyes are going to water more, use the protective coating more. If you know you’re going to be spending a lot of time outside in the blazing heat and are likely to be sweating a lot, use the protective coating more. If you don’t use it at all, we recommend that you start, as it is a good investment for your eyelashes. It’s normally recommended that you use the Xtreme Protective Coating once or twice a week, but when the heat turns up, turn up the usage to about once every other day. This will protect from pollen, heat-induced sweat, and even the extra contact with water from those frequent beach visits!

Lash care during the warmer season should be fairly simple as long as you take these tips into consideration. Follow these guidelines and your biggest worry this summer will be finding beach parking πŸ˜‰ Blink blink wink!
